Leeds United: Fans purr over Phil Hay update about players and staff agreeing to wage cut - Leeds United

According to a report from The Athletic, as published by journalist Phil Hay, Leeds United players and staff look set to take a wage cut as part of the club’s efforts to balance the books amid the EFL’s current suspension – with many supporters praising their attitude.

Due to the lack of football action, Leeds are going to miss out on substantial revenue income, especially considering ticket sales and all match day income have been brought to a screeching halt. According to an interview with owner Andrea Radrizzani, per Sky Sport Italia via the Daily Mail, not playing just five home matches can lead to losses of up to £2.5 million – with Leeds’ annual turnover currently sitting at £45 million.

This piece from The Athletic, detailing the high wage bill, potentially highlights the need to shave off as many expenses as possible. Bearing that in mind, with news coming out that players and staff have agreed to the cut, plenty of supporters have praised their attitude; calling them a ‘credit‘, voicing their ‘pleasure‘ and explaining how ‘proud‘ they are.
