Leeds United: Fans react to Ezgjan Alioski’s pre-game message for Aapo Halme

Loads of Leeds United supporters have been reacting on social media to recently unearthed footage shared on Twitter showing Ezgjan Alioski delivering a quick message to Aapo Halme before the Whites beat Barnsley on Sunday.

Halme left Leeds for Barnsley in the summer after a year and a half at Elland Road, with the Whites receiving an undisclosed fee for the Finland U21 international (Yorkshire Evening Post) allegedly £203,000 (TransferMarkt), almost £300,000 less than they paid HJK Helsinki in 2018.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa had deemed the 21-year-old surplus to requirements in West Yorkshire prior to his departure, having made just five senior appearances for the club, with the last of which coming in the FA Cup Third Round defeat at Queens Park Rangers last season (TransferMarkt).

Halme is already enjoying an extended run in the starting XI at Barnsley, with his outing against Leeds his second league start in a row and fourth consecutive appearance.

His efforts failed to prevent the Whites from winning, however, as a late goal by substitute Eddie Nketiah and a penalty converted by Mateusz Klich ensured Bielsa’s side snatched the honours at Oakwell.

Halme recorded a 100% tackle success rate against his former side, though, while also winning four of five aerial duels, making four clearances and two interceptions, per WhoScored data.

Before the game commenced, Alioski had jokingly suggested that Halme was nervous to be facing his former side so soon after leaving Leeds, as he had opted not to say hello to his former teammates in the tunnel ahead of kick-off.

Footage of the North Macedonia international talking with Halme was shared on Twitter on Monday by Leeds supporter @BlouFace, and these Whites fans absolutely loved it going by their reactions…
