Many Leeds United supporters have been reacting on social media, after Whites captain Liam Cooper stated that his West Yorkshire side must ‘sort it out’ after being beaten at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Cooper maintained his regular spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s backline at the Valley, but was unable to prevent Macauley Bonne breaking the Whites’ goal line in the 32nd-minute for what proved to be the only goal of the affair.
Leeds were the side with the upper hand throughout their most recent second-tier away day, with the Elland Road natives enjoying almost three times as much possession as their hosts and fashioning more than six times as many shots – albeit only seeing four of their 19 find the target, according to WhoScored data.
Losing on the road to Lee Bowyer’s Addicks meant Leeds slipped from the top spot in the Championship to fourth place, as West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Nottingham Forest moved ahead of Bielsa’s men.
United go again on Tuesday night against the new league-leaders West Brom at Elland Road, who are also the only unbeaten side in the current league campaign, and Cooper has vowed to do all he and his teammates can to get back to winning ways.
“Once again, we have had the chances to win the game and we can’t keep shooting ourselves in the foot by conceding the goals we are,” Cooper told LUFC TV. “The manager has told us to stay positive, our luck will turn as we are getting nothing at the moment and we will keep going.
“We’ve got to sort it out at conceding set-pieces at that end, and the lads have to sort it out at the top end and put some chances away, and that is the way it is – we will all be working hard to go again.
“This game will by no means define our season, we have been here before and know the reaction we need. We have a great chance to do that on Tuesday night against West Brom who are top of the league, so, hopefully, we can put on a good performance there.”
When Leeds shared their captain’s comments on Twitter, the Elland Road fanbase responded with the sense of Cooper’s words being like the 28-year-old was stating the obvious, while others questioned their player’s intentions.
Here are a selection of the responses shared…

Have to ask the question, do you really want to go into the Premier league because it appears to me you are frightened of going there.

No Finisher or good striker, fans last Christmas were saying we need more or better strikers. This is Bielsa last season, only leeds can play amazing football and not score. Mid table finish I predict
