According to a tweet from Phil Hay, all non-league seasons below the National League North and South will be ‘written off‘ due to recent events which have put the whole country on lockdown – with Leeds United fans responding fearfully to the update.
The FA announced this measure in response to growing fears surrounding a pandemic that is sweeping the nation, with the government urging people to stay indoors in order to prevent a large scale spread. The same also applies to women’s football below the Super League and Championship, with all results being declared void and expunged as the FA resolve as much season action as possible.
However, every division above the National League North and South is safe for now, with the governing body still hopeful that they can complete the campaign. Despite this, many Whites supporters are now fearful that the Championship could also be voided, with one fan stating that ‘we need to fight this‘.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter, as one fan insisted this is a ‘dangerous precedent’…
They seem to be trying it out on the small clubs before coming for the bigger leagues. We need to fight this to the bitter end.
