Leeds United: Fans take aim at Derby County after FFP charge

Leeds United fans were taking aim at Derby County after they were charged with breaking financial fair play rules.

It was revealed on Thursday afternoon that the Rams will face punishment from the EFL after they recorded insufficient losses over a three year period up to June 2018 (via BBC). The spending rules set out by the league’s organisation allow teams to make losses up to £39m over the aforementioned time span.

The side have been referred to an Independent Disciplinary Commission and face the prospect of being handed a points deduction. With the club sitting just 10 points ahead of the relegation zone, they face the real prospect of dragged into a relegation dogfight for the remainder of the campaign.

The two clubs had a tense relationship with one another after Marcelo Bielsa sent a member of his coaching staff to spy on the Derbyshire side last season (via The Guardian) and then the Rams beat them in the play-off semi-final while under the charge of Frank Lampard.
