Leeds are hoping to keep the excitement up at Elland Road next season, whether they’re promoted or not. With that in mind, they should bring in the proven Harry Wilson over potential target Justin Lonwijk in summer.
Lonwijk is an attacking midfielder for PSV’s U21s and has bagged three goals and three assists in 17 appearances this season. The Mirror’s transfer blog (Saturday, 7.45am) claimed Leeds are hoping to bring the 19-year-old to England.
He’s clearly a talent, but Leeds need instant success at the moment and exciting wing play. The youngster is another attacking midfielder Bielsa doesn’t need and his youthfulness simply makes him a huge liability despite his low valuation of £135,000 on Transfermarkt.
Harry Wilson would give Bielsa both exciting wing play and proven talent. His 14 goals and two assists in 37 Championship games this season shows how deadly he can be in front of goal at a level far superior than Holland’s youth league. Football Insider believe Leeds have him in their sights already.
He’d be available for free in summer and has the ability to excel in the Premier League if they’re promoted. At 22-year-old it’s hardly like choosing him over Lonwijk would be a nod to short-termism either.
He’s got another 10 years at the top.
Bielsa should forget taking the risk on Lonwijk and go all-out to sign Harry Wilson who’s a proven goalscorer, used to the England league and still has youth on his side. He’d be the best way to keep Elland Road on its feet.
