Former Leeds United ‘keeper Paul Robinson has claimed that Jean-Kevin Augustin won’t start for the Whites against Bristol City this weekend.
The Whites will be looking to follow up their performance against Brentford with three points against the Robins on Saturday but the ex-Elland Road favourite believes the Frenchman will be a notable absentee from the starting XI. The 40-year-old claimed that the Red Bull Leipzig loanee didn’t look fit in Tuesday night’s fixture against the Bees and that Patrick Bamford will once again lead the line.
He said: “Augustin has still only played a little bit and he doesn’t look match fit. That’s not that surprising given that he only started a few games for Monaco. The way Bielsa plays and what he demands, it’s going to take Augustin a while to get up to the levels he wants. It will take time, he was never going to hit the ground running.” (Source: MOT Leeds News)
The former goalkeeper is completely right in his assessment on the £12.6m-rated man (as per Transfermarkt) and his career with Leeds so far. His statistics from his appearances against Nottingham Forest and Brentford really do show that he is struggling to lead the line for the Yorkshire outfit.
In the game against the Reds, the forward came off the bench in the 71st minute but attempted just three passes and won just one of his four aerial duels (via Sofa Score). He didn’t improve much in the game against the Bees, where he attempted two passes, had no shots on goal and won none of his two aerial duels despite Leeds having dominated proceedings.
Should Leeds sign Jack Harrison permanently?
Bamford may not be the most perfect striker, due to his poor xG, but the £5.4m-rated attacker (as per Transfermarkt) provides great link-up play and has the ability to be the first line of defence for the Argentine manager. He needs to start this weekend as Augustin has shown he is nowhere near providing the sort of attacking play Bamford can right now.
