Leeds United have to fancy themselves in play-offs after first leg fixtures: Opinion - Championship

Leeds United moved a step closer to Wembley this weekend with a 1-0 win at Derby County.

A goal from Kemar Roofe was enough to give the Whites the advantage heading into this week’s second leg, and manager Marcelo Bielsa will have been delighted to see his team see off the Rams for the third time in a row this season.

And for Leeds, who could face one of Aston Villa or West Brom in the final, we here in the Tavern feel they have nothing to fear from any of the remaining teams potentially standing in their way.

Leeds were by far and away the better side in the game at Pride Park this weekend, and the performances of both Villa and West Brom will have done little to worry Bielsa and his coaching team.

After a poor run of league form, Bielsa’s men looked back to their brilliant best, with quick incisive passing and their high pressing defensive game in full flow against Frank Lampard’s men.

Of course, there is the second leg to get through, and the Rams are more than capable on their day of finally getting the better of the Whites and registering a win in what would be the most important time to do so in this exciting Championship season.

Leeds’ fans though should be confident, and if they can indeed take care of business and move past the Rams, then a Premier League place could well beckon for the Yorkshire giants.
