According to a report from Football Insider, a permanent deal for Leeds United loanee ‘keeper Illan Meslier may be tied up by 1st July – with the future of four other temporary Whites players still up for discussion.
Meslier, who has stepped in to replace banned shot-stopper Kiko Casilla after his ban last month, is still yet to concede a goal in the Championship – keeping two clean sheets in two league outings.
Now, as revealed by Football Insider, the Frenchman could sign at Elland Road on a permanent deal by the start of July – especially after Leeds told his parent club Lorient that they intend to ‘push through‘ a £5 million deal.
Indeed, the 20-year-old looks like he could be United’s first signing of the summer window, but is he worth it?
According to FootyStats, while Meslier currently holds a 100% clean sheet ratio over his extremely limited two league outings, it’s clear that he does possess quality given his record over regular appearances last season.
The youngster conceded just 30 goals in 28 Ligue 2 matches for Lorient over 2018/2019, boasting a fairly solid record, but Meslier did only manage nine clean sheets in that time. While there is plenty of debate to be had over the legitimacy over this signing, it’s clear that Meslier holds plenty of potential for a meagre £5 million fee.
