With just two games left to play in the Championship this season, it is now or never for Leeds United’s promotion hopes.
Monday’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford saw the Whites fall three points behind Sheffield United in the standings with several of their players failing to step up to the mark when needed.
Forward Patrick Bamford continued his enigmatic year by delivering yet another toothless performance whilst Kemar Roofe failed to make an impact as a substitute at Griffin Park. In need of a response against Aston Villa at the weekend, Marcelo Bielsa may turn to Izzy Brown for inspiration.
Despite joining Leeds last summer on loan from Chelsea, a myriad of injury problems has limited the 22-year-old to just one appearance so far this season. However, he could be in line for a return to the match-day squad at the weekend following a promising display for the club’s under-23 side against Newcastle United on Tuesday.
With the Whites’ entire season hanging by a thread, Brown could provide the impact needed to get them back on track. A versatile player who can feature in several different positions, the former Huddersfield Town loanee could use his previous experience of achieving promotion with the Terriers in 2017 as motivation to become a cult-hero at Elland Road.
Although it would be a risk to start Brown giving his history of injury problems over the past two years, it may be time for Leeds to take drastic action as they simply cannot afford to drop points against Villa as if they do, their hopes of finishing in the top-two could be extinguished by results elsewhere.
What do you think Whites fans? Should Brown be given a chance to impress at the weekend by Bielsa? Or is too much of a risk to take at this stage of the season? Get in touch below.
