A member of the Leeds United staff said they believe on-loan Brighton and Hove Albion defender will be starting for England at the next World Cup.
The comments come after his performance in the 1-0 win over Reading in the Championship with a commentator for the club also lavishing praise on the 22-year-old by comparing him to Manchester City’s John Stones, as reported by ITV presenter and former BBC commentator Jacqui Oatley.
It’s not that big of a stretch to imagine White playing at the next World Cup especially with England’s lack of reliable centre-halves.
While Harry Maguire has shown himself to be a sturdy defender on occasions for both former side Leicester City and England, he has not always been reliable this term. The 26-year-old has kept just seven clean sheets in the 27 games he has played for Manchester United and the Three Lions this season (via WhoScored).
Meanwhile, John Stones, who has been compared to White, has featured in just seven Premier League games for City, keeping just three clean sheets and losing two of those fixtures (via Transfermarkt).
Maguire and Stone have looked far from stable with their respective clubs so far this campaign. It isn’t a stretch to imagine that White could well be lining up instead of one of the two players at the next World Cup, especially if he can continue his form over the coming years with Brighton.
