Leeds United: Noel Whelan urges Andrea Radrizzani to ‘step aside’ if QSI invest - Leeds United

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has urged owner Andrea Radrizzani to “step aside” if he manages to secure new investment from Qatar.

The Italian revealed back in October that he was in talks with Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) regarding a takeover of the Elland Road club (The Times).

Is Marcelo Bielsa the best coach in the Championship

QSI have already invested heavily in Paris Saint Germain, but it is thought that Radrizzani is trying to secure a deal with them to put their money behind Leeds in order to take them to another level, similar to that of Manchester City (The Times).

When discussing the potential investment, Whelan urged Radrizzani to allow QSI to takeover the club fully rather than keeping himself as the majority shareholder.

Speaking to Football Insider about what Radrizzani should do, Whelan said: “Get the best possible deal for Leeds United.

“He shouldn’t cling on to try and control the club, with Qatar as minority shareholders. If you step aside, you must step aside fully.

“If Qatar, or any other investor, plans to pump in a massive amount of money they want to to own the club themselves and do it their own way.

“Leeds could be a massive club with the right investment. It’s a one-city club with the fan base, history and support to be off the scale.

“Leeds could be a special place to be in the coming years, but they need to get in the Premier League, first.”

Whelan is right, if Radrizzani does manage to secure a deal with QSI, he should allow them to take full control and put their financial backing behind the club.

Football has seen already the funds that they could pump in by looking at the transformation of PSG, who have brought in big-name stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Neymar for multi-millions.

Marcelo Bielsa is on course to take Leeds to the Premier League this season. Indeed, they currently sit top of the Championship and 11 points clear of third place (BBC Sport).

If they do go up and QSI do take over, then there could be exciting times ahead for fans of the West Yorkshire club.
