Former Leeds United man Paul Robinson has suggested that Yorkshire-born forward Erling Haaland would be a brilliant addition to the Whites.
The suggestion from Robinson comes after Bleacher Report linked the Elland Road side with a move for the Red Bull Salzburg forward.
Do Leeds have any chance of landing Erling Haaland?
According to the American publication, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are in the hunt for the player if they get promoted to the Premier League this year.
Robinson believes Haaland would be a realistic option for the Yorkshire club and that the club needs investment upfront anyway.
He said: “A player of that quality [Haaland] and that ability, of course he would be a brilliant addition for Leeds.
“If the world’s your oyster and money’s no object, of course, you go and buy the very best players,” said Robinson.
“It’s important that if investment does come in, they strengthen the squad, but Bielsa hasn’t historically spent for the sake of spending so it will be interesting to see.
“I certainly don’t think Patrick Bamford can do it on his own. It’s one area they definitely need to improve.” (Source: MOT Leeds News)
In terms of forward options, Haaland would add quality and, more importantly, depth.
At the end of this campaign, should Leeds achieve promotion to the English top-flight, Patrick Bamford would be the only out-and-out striker at the club. And given the struggles of strikers like Dwight Gayle when moving up to the Premier League (scored just 21 goals in 104 Premier League game)s, adding quality from European leagues would be a welcome change.
Haaland has gone from strength to strength this year, finishing the Champions League group stages with the second-most goals after Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (via BBC),
His league form has also been nothing short of sensational, managing to notch up 16 goals in just 14 games in the Austrian top-flight (via Transfermarkt).
With a stepping-stone move being mooted, a transfer to Leeds is surely not outside the realms of possibility. A move would be a sensational transfer and give the side a much-needed boost in forward areas for a potential return to the Premier League.
