The Athletic’s Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has revealed some transfer news concerning Whites starlet Jack Harrison.
Hay claims that Leeds have an option to buy Harrison at the end of the season for what he believes could be just £10m, with the player’s contract with Manchester City ending in 2022.
After a mixed first season at Elland Road, Harrison has enjoyed a far more successful second season at the northern club. Four goals and five assists in just 20 appearances in the Championship put him as the joint-highest attacking contributor for Marcelo Bielsa’s side (via WhoScored).
However, the attacker has offered far more than just goals and assists this campaign, proving to be an important player for the side. His overall attacking presence has been bright, with the 23-year-old averaging the most dribbles and the fourth-most key passes per game in Leeds’ squad.
Should Leeds attempt to sign Harrison?
Given Leeds’ struggles to score many goals this season, Harrison’s output is proving to be crucial for the side. The Yorkshire side have scored just 30 goals this season, the least amount of goals of any club in the top four (via BBC).
With promotion looking a real possibility this season, you’d like to think the club would retain the majority of their squad should they go all the way.
Clubs like Sheffield United have shown that retaining the squad you went up with can prove fruitful in taking on the challenge of the English top flight. Nine of the 11 players who started against Manchester United came up with the squad last season, as the club drew 3-3 against the top-flight giants.
In that regard, Harrison for just £10m would be a bargain for Bielsa’s side next summer seeing as how he has performed this term.
Leeds fans, would you take Harrison for just £10m if the club were promoted this season? Let us know your thoughts!
