Leeds United have developed quite a relationship with Barcelona in recent years in terms of signing some of the La Liga giants’ most exciting young prospects.
Having brought in Kun Temenuzkhov and Oriol Rey from the Blaugrana in 2017, the Whites could be about to add another La Masia graduate to their ranks this summer.
A versatile player who can operate both as a centre-forward and as a winger, the 20-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the Blaugrana’s senior side yet has been very impressive for their reserve outfit Barcelona B this season.
Having been directly involved in eight goals for the Catalan club in the third tier of Spanish football, Mujica has demonstrated that he has the potential to thrive at a higher level in the future and therefore Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta should do everything he can to finalise a move for the forward over the coming months.
Whereas it is extremely unlikely that the former Cornella loanee will be able to force his way into a Barcelona team boasting the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Malcom, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, a switch to Leeds could be ideal for his development as a player.
With Marcelo Bielsa handing first-team appearances to Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke during the 2018/19 campaign, Mujica would almost certainly be given the chance to impress next season by the Argentine if he decides to make the switch when the transfer window opens in July.
If the forward can hit the ground running at Leeds next season and learn from the guidance of Bielsa, there is no reason why he cannot become an Elland Road hero in the not-too-distant future.
What do you think Whites fans? Would signing Mujica be a good move by the club? How impressed have you been with Orta’s recruitment since his appointment in 2017? Let us know below.
