When Marcelo Bielsa was appointed as Leeds United’s new boss last June, not many of their supporters would have predicted just how big of an impact the Argentine would have on the club’s fortunes.
Despite having worked across Europe during his 29 year managerial career, it was seen as somewhat of a risk by the Whites to bring him in given his recent failure at Ligue 1 side Lille.
Yet from the very outset, it was clear that chairman Andrea Radrizzani had made the correct choice as Bielsa immediately won over his players by implementing his distinctive style of play at Elland Road.
Having lit up the Championship with a number of incredible performances in the first-half of the campaign, it looked almost certain that Leeds would be one of the three sides to achieve promotion to the Premier League at the crescendo of the 2018/19 campaign.
However, with the weight of expectations proving too much for Bielsa’s players, their ultimately capitulated in dramatic style by suffering a gut-wrenching defeat to Derby County in last Wednesday’s play-off semi-final.
With Leeds facing the prospect of yet another year in the second tier next season, it is clear that in order to bounce back in a positive manner, they must convince Bielsa to prolong his stay.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites have held positive talks with the 63-year-old over the past few days and are now reportedly close to agreeing to an extension to his current deal.
With journalist Phil Hay revealing the news on Twitter, loads of Leeds fans reacted excitedly to the update.
Finally some good news. Hopefully we strengthen the squad too before we lose the momentum of last season’s improvement

Fantastic news if so. Let’s hope Orta gets him the players to do the job. Automatic next season no ifs or buts

Given the fact that Bielsa had recently been linked with a move to Roma (via the Daily Mail), it would be quite a relief to the Elland Road faithful if he resolves his current situation by signing a new contract with the Whites.
