Leeds United: Whites fans take to Twitter to demand the Alex Mowatt return - Championship

When Alex Mowatt burst onto the scene for Leeds United in 2013, it seemed as if he was destined to become a modern-day hero at Elland Road.

A fantastic technician, the 24-year-old thrilled fans with his performances as his habit of producing spectacular long-range strikes made him one of the club’s most popular players.

Yet despite winning the Whites’ Player of the Year award in 2015, Mowatt soon became the victim of mismanagement which ultimately culminated in him having to leave West Yorkshire two years later to join Barnsley.

Although he initially made a slow start to his Tykes career, the club’s decision to appoint Daniel Stendel as their new boss last summer has allowed the midfielder to flourish at Oakwell.

Playing a prominent role in Barnsley’s successful promotion push last season, Mowatt’s outstanding level of consistency resulted in him being named in the PFA League One Team of the Year last month (via the PFA’s official website).

With the £450k-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) playing the best football of his career to date, it is of no surprise that these Leeds fans are demanding their club to consider a summer swoop for the midfielder on Twitter.

Having missed out on promotion to the Premier League via a heart-breaking play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County, the Whites would arguably benefit from bringing Mowatt back to Elland Road.

However, any potential move may depend on whether manager Marcelo Bielsa decides to prolong his stay at Leeds with the Argentine currently locked in talks with chairman Andrea Radrizzani over his future.
