Our Leeds fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a productive summer as their club aims for a strong season in the Championship.
The men from Elland Road have had a pretty dramatic summer so far with Andrea Radrizzani buying out Massimo Cellino and Garry Monk leaving the club and now all the fans want is a new manager and some players to arrive.
Indeed, the situation with the manager has really dragged on but whilst that still remains to be resolved the club is at least getting linked with new players – suggesting activity on that front is not being impacted too much.
Indeed, The Daily Mail is saying that Leeds are amongst those interested in goalkeeper Sam Johnstone with it seeming as though he is surplus to requirements at Manchester United.
He did, of course, spend the second half of last season at Aston Villa and was decent so would feel confident of adapting to playing at Leeds but we’re not sure that he’d be the right person for the Whites to go after anyway.
Make no mistake, we think he is a decent stopper but do Leeds really need him with Rob Green proving himself more than good enough last season with his performances?
Indeed, Green was a real ever-present last season for the club and will surely be the number 1 again as he looks to use his vast experience to get the club into the Premier League.
Johnstone, meanwhile, cannot compare at all on that front and, though talented, is not a massive improvement on Green if he is that at all.
It’s a deal that doesn’t really make sense, then, and one we think Leeds shouldn’t bother wasting time over.
