Leeds United have made an impressive start to life under Marcelo Bielsa.
Appointing the former Argentina boss was considered a real coup earlier this summer, but no-one would have expected the Leeds squad to adapt to his methods so quickly. An inconsistent pre-season cast further doubt over whether the Whites would be successful this season. However, the Argentine has masterminded victories over Stoke City and Derby County to put his side firmly in title contention.
There is still time for Bielsa to add to his squad despite the transfer window closing for English clubs. EFL clubs can still sign players on loan until the end of August. The former Athletic Bilbao boss should seek to bolster his ranks and cement their promotion ambitions.
One man he should attempt to capture is Liverpool wonderkid – Marko Grujic. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the youngster was tipped for a bright future after impressing for Red Star Belgrade to earn a £5m move Anfield back in 2016. He has found playing time limited on Merseyside and was loaned to Cardiff City for the second half of last season.
The Serb enjoyed a starring role for the Bluebirds, making 13 appearances and scoring one goal as Neil Warnock’s side earned promotion to the Premier League. The 22-year-old is set to leave on loan again but has rejected a move to Middlesbrough as he is eager to test himself in a higher division. However, with no suitors thus far, he may be tempted to join the project at Leeds.
Grujic is a tall midfielder who possesses excellent technical ability and would give Bielsa a useful option in the engine room. The Serbia international is also strong in the tackle and reads the game well, averaging 1.8 tackles and interceptions in the Championship last season (WhoScored).
If Bielsa can convince him to join, the Whites will have pulled off another transfer masterstroke.
