Leeds United’s promotion hopes were dealt a big blow this weekend as they were seen off by Sheffield United at Elland Road.
The Whites failed to make a dominant first half showing count and they were made to pay by a second half goal by Chris Basham which shot their opponents and Yorkshire rivals above them in the Championship table.
And the day got worse too the for the Whites, as a red card for Kiko Casilla and an injury to star defender Pontus Jansson soured a day to forget even further.
The injury to Jansson is a massive concern too for the club, with the Swede being a key man at the back for Marcelo Bielsa and being one of the real leaders in the group at Elland Road, something which is going to be needed when the going gets tough in the final eight games.
Jansson has an affinity with the club’s fans too, and is the sort of player you can turn too in games which are tight and require big players to step up in.
While there is no news yet on just how serious the injury to Jansson might be, it’s important that Leeds see him back in the famous white shirt as soon as possible.
The likes of Gaetano Berardi will of course come in and do a decent enough job, but it would be a huge shame for the Whites if an injury to someone like Jansson became the defning moment in their season.
