Opinion: One more loss for Leeds means curtains for their promotion hopes

Leeds saw their promotion hopes dealt a massive blow this weekend as they were beaten by Birmingham City at St Andrews.

The Whites are looking to get themselves in the mix at the top of the table, but seeing Sheffield United once again jump them into the automatic spots is a bit of a worry for Marcelo Bielsa’s men heading into what is going to be a tight run in.

Leeds had looked like having everything in their hands last weekend when they came back from behind against Millwall to take a massive three points, but this weekend has set them back again.

This all points to a massive week ahead for the club, who travel to Preston North End in midweek and then take on Aston Villa in what will be a massive game at the weekend.

Here in the Tavern, we feel like Leeds simply can’t afford another slip up, and if they do indeed drop to another defeat, it might well be enough to hand promotion to Chris Wilder’s Blades.

There’s still, of course, a long way to go and many points to play for, but Leeds will be feeling the pressure now, and they will be fully aware that any further slips will prove massively costly to the club.

It’s all set to be a nail biting finish to the season, and the pressure is now firmly on the club to ensure they put enough points on the board to finally get themselves back into the top flight.
