Leeds United remain unbeaten in the Championship following a blistering start to life under Marcelo Bielsa.
The Argentine was considered a real coup when the Whites announced the former Argentina boss as their new manager earlier in the summer. Bielsa became the highest paid manager in the club’s history and is tasked with finally returning the club to the Premier League. After winning four of their opening six fixtures, Leeds have already been tipped for promotion.
The Whites managed to extend their unbeaten streak against Millwall on Saturday, retaining their place at the top of the Championship table. Bielsa was without star striker Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford for the difficult away trip and injuries are also mounting up in defence. Leeds should definitely consider signing another defender in January.
The perfect addition could be Montpellier stopper – Pedro Mendes. Valued at £3.15m by Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old has been a critical player for the Ligue 1 side since joining from Rennes last summer. Mendes made 34 appearances during his debut campaign for his new team, averaging an impressive 6.9 rating according to WhoScored.
Mendes has made an impressive start to the new campaign, scoring during his opening four appearances in Ligue 1. The defender would be a massive upgrade on Leed’s current defenders as he has averaged 1.8 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game this season. Mendes also loves to throw his body on the line, averaging 1.5 blocks per game this campaign (WhoScored).
The Portuguese is improving with age and approaching the prime of his career; he would prove to be an inspired addition to the squad. Formerly of Real Madrid, Mendes could be the signing Leeds need to secure a place in the Premier League.
