Leeds United fans will agree that automatic promotion is the only option from here on in until the end of the season, as dropping into the play-off places would be gutting after the season they’ve had.
Marcelo Bielsa has brought Leeds fans’ wildest dreams to life as they continue to edge closer towards promotion to the top-flight, but all of the Whites’ hard work won’t mean anything if they fail to secure promotion this season.
However, it appears as if the Yorkshire club have turned their attention towards the summer, as according to Football Insider (via Stoke Sentinel), Nick Powell’s situation is being closely monitored by Leeds United.
The Wigan Athletic man has come on leaps and bounds over the past couple of seasons, so here are the potential consequences of Bielsa bringing him to Elland Road in the summer…
MARCELO BIELSA SECURES A PLAYMAKER
The one thing that has let Leeds down at times has been creativity in the final third as Samu Saiz’s loan move to Spain has proved to be more costly than fans may think.
Of course, Pablo Hernandez has been the source of all things brilliant for the Whites in the final third, which has meant that they’ve struggled whenever he drops off the pace.
However, bringing in someone like Nick Powell would provide Leeds with the playmaker they’ve been craving, which would boost their creativity levels in the final third and could take their attack to the next level. He has the passing, finishing and dribbling ability to be real handful in the Premier League if Leeds secure promotion this season.
NO MOVE FOR STEFAN JOHANSEN
Leeds United are reportedly plotting a swoop for Stefan Johansen, according to Football Insider.
The Norway international hasn’t been able to showcase his talents since moving to the Hawthorns back in the January transfer window and he looks set to become a free agent in the summer.
However, it’s unlikely that the Whites will move for another player who operate in an attacking role if Powell joins as they already have the likes of Tyler Roberts and Mateusz Klich providing an attacking threat from midfield.
