Leeds United fans will be gutted with the arrival of the international break as they’ll be desperate to return to winning ways after losing out against promotion rivals Sheffield United.
The Whites have looked rather impressive under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa in recent times at Elland Road, so they won’t be too bothered about their recent slip-up as there’s still plenty of time to make up for it.
However, Leeds’ promotion hopes took a massive hit recently as Pontus Jansson suffered an injury during the Whites’ game against Sheffield United, and he’s now set to miss three weeks of action (as per BBC Sport).
Jansson has been influential at the heart of the defence this season, so here are the potential consequences of the Swede spending three weeks out on the sidelines…
MARCELO BIELSA TURNS TO TRUSTED STAR
Marcelo Bielsa may just turn to Kalvin Phillips in Pontus Jansson’s absence for Leeds United as he’s already proven himself at centre-back in the current campaign, as the Whites have won nine, drawn one and lost two when the Englishman has featured at the heart of the defence.
The 23-year-old has excelled in every position and it would make much more sense for Bielsa to push him back to the heart of the defence rather than bringing in someone inexperienced like Aapo Halme.
ELLAND ROAD FEARFUL
Pontus Jansson’s injury will come as a huge blow for supporters as he has a special place in the hearts of many, with his leadership qualities and no-nonsense defending working wonders for the Whites.
Of course, Elland Road will be slightly fearful without the Sweden international in their ranks as he’s helped spearhead their promotion push in the current campaign. And, with the likes of Birmingham City and Millwall coming up next for the Whites, it’s safe to say that they’ll miss his aerial presence against two physical teams.
