Potential consequences of Leeds signing Aaron Lennon in the summer

Potential consequences of Leeds signing Aaron Lennon in the summer - Championship

Leeds United will be desperate to return to winning ways after failing to secure any points against Norwich City yesterday, as they now find themselves in second position.

The Whites looked helpless in front of home support yesterday at Elland Road as the Canaries executed their game plan perfectly, which forced Leeds into making a number of mistakes.

However, it appears as if the Yorkshire club have already turned their attention towards the summer transfer window, as according to the Sun, Marcelo Bielsa wants to bring Aaron Lennon back to Elland Road.

It’s safe to say that Aaron Lennon hasn’t enjoyed the best of times in the Premier League recently, so here are the potential consequences of Leeds securing the Englishman…

Leeds United tried their hardest to secure the services of Swansea City’s Daniel James during the January transfer window, but they weren’t able to complete a deal as it ended up collapsing.

It’s surprising that the Whites are looking to sign Lennon with James recently on their radar, as they don’t really have enough room for many more wingers. Indeed, the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Jack Clarke, Jack Harrison and Ezgjan Alioski have all impressed at times, with Harrison’s loan expiring in the summer.

With Premier League football in the offing, Bielsa may decide to go down the more experienced route.

So, the Whites run the risk of downgrading from the Swansea City man as he has all the ingredients to become a future star, whereas Lennon has spent most of the season out injured and is past his best.

Jack Clarke has been one of the standout performers for Leeds United in the current campaign, which caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs during the January transfer window.

Aaron Lennon joining the club could open the door for the youngster to leave as Bielsa wouldn’t sign the experienced winger if he wasn’t going to be a part of his plans. The Whites did well to hold onto the 18-year-old during the January transfer window, but another winger making the move to Elland Road could just make his mind up for him.
