The arrival of the Argentine has caused quite a stir in West Yorkshire.
Marcelo Bielsa is famed for favouring a 3-3-1-3 formation, with a high press, and featuring an enganche – a link, or ‘hook’, between the midfield and attack.
Bielsa demands high fitness level, technical ability and adaptability from his players. He likes his players to be versatile and fit into different positions to suit the shape of the side.
Bielsa is not a manager afraid of making bold and risky decisions, that much is for sure. Indeed, these really are exciting times at Elland Road and we absolutely cannot wait.
With that in mind, here is two players who seriously need to impress Bielsa in pre-season.
A bit of a make or break season for the young talent. Viera will want to stake his claim for a place in Bielsa’s starting line up next season. He played something of a bit-part role last season for the Whites, featuring in 25 Championship games.
With his technical ability and ability to make driving runs forward with the ball, Viera could prove he is perfect to perform the enganche role in pre-season.
Kemar Roofe has never quite been able to lay down a marker at Elland Road. He will be vying to prove to Bielsa in pre-season that he has the talent to spearhead the team to the Premier League.
As part of an attacking three, rather than a loan striker, it is likely the Whites will be the best out of the ex-Oxford United man. Clearly, Roofe knows where the goal is and, with a vibrant hub of attacking play behind him, he’ll look to be the focal point of the attack to bury chances.
