Leeds United supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team get back to winning ways in the Championship courtesy of a 2-1 success over relegation-threatened Barnsley on Saturday.
Paul Heckingbottom’s men went into their clash with the Tykes having won just one of their previous nine league games, a run of form which has ended their play-off hopes for another season. Yet the former Barnsley chief got one over on his ex-employers on Saturday with goals from Tom Pearce and Ezgjan Alioski either side of a Paudie O’Connor own goal clinching the three points for the Yorkshire giants, a result which moved them back into the top half of the Championship table.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Leeds fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are hoping their team can finish the season strongly to build much-needed momentum ahead of a possible promotion challenge in 2018/19.
And many of our resident Whites supporters have been speculating upon who their side may need to sign in a bid to sustain a promotion push, with several of the opinion that £6.3 million-rated Tottenham outcast Georges Kevin Nkoudou (as per Transfermarkt) should seek to reignite his career with a move to Elland Road.
Ultimately, the 23-year-old has found the going tough since moving to North London back in 2016, with just 23 senior appearances to show for his efforts in the last couple of years, of which just three have been starts.
In fact, he is so low down on Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order that he was shipped out on loan to Burnley back in January, but his difficulties there in earning just six appearances suggest that he faces a big summer ahead in pursuing with his English football career.
Clearly, Nkoudou has shown little to suggest that he could make a meaningful impact at Premier League level in the next few years, and as such could look at the fiercely competitive Championship in a bid to reignite his career.
And Leeds could be the ideal destination for the Frenchman.
Ultimately, as with any side eyeing up promotion, one needs quality and strength in depth throughout the squad such is the long, hard slog of a Championship campaign, with their struggles in the second half of this season suggesting that Heckingbottom needs more over the summer to challenge near the summit.
And while Nkoudou hasn’t quite proven his worth in English football just yet, there is clearly some ability there given he scored ten goals for Marseille back in the 2015/16 campaign, while Pochettino clearly saw something in him to make a move in 2016.
And more regular football at a big club like Leeds, who have ambitions of returning to the Premier League, could be exactly what the 23-year-old needs in his quest to fulfil his potential in English football.
Thus, the Spurs midfielder should seek to resurrect his career in England by moving to Leeds this summer.
