Leeds United’s fans have been longing to return to the Premier League and this year they might just do that.
This season United have started incredibly well despite their recent struggles, one player who has recently begun to show the form he once showed when he joined the club, is fan-favourite Pontus Jansson.
Newcastle United on the other hand, have struggled this season and with the exception of goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, none of Benitez’s men have performed well enough. So let’s compare the two players.
Following an impressive loan spell at Newcastle last season, Mike Ashley brought the Sparta Prague goalkeeper in on a permanent deal and so far it looks as though the 29-year-old is going to be a solid player for the Magpies.
Despite Newcastle struggling down near the bottom of the table, the Slovakian has played all of Newcastle’s Premier League games this season and arguably had his best performance of the season against Manchester United.
The goalkeeper has been a superb signing and it’s not too far-fetched to say that if Newcastle don’t improve, they could well lose the goalkeeper in the near future.

Since joining from Torino, Jansson has not only turned himself into one of the best defenders in the Championship but also a fan favourite with the fans. After instantly impressing at the club, the Sweden international was signed on a permanent deal in 2017.
The 27-year-old had a slight drop off in his second season and at the start of this year he struggled to get into the side, but over the last few weeks Jansson has started to return to the level that he played at two years ago.
It remains to be seen if he’ll keep his place when Gaetano Berardi returns but what’s for certain is that Leeds certainly have a top defender, who if he doesn’t regain his starting spot permanently, will likely attract interest from Premier League clubs next summer.

Both players have established themselves as essential players for their respective sides. Since making his move permanent over the summer, Dubravka has continued to play at a high level despite Newcastle’s struggles.
While facing competition for his spot, Jansson is still a superb defender and one of the best in the league. Considering his ability and talent, Jansson wins this battle although it was an incredibly tough one to call.
If Jansson hasn’t become a starter for Leeds again by next summer, plenty of clubs will be looking to sign him.
