Leeds United currently find themselves sitting in second position after losing to Norwich City at Elland Road, but they still hold a three point lead over Sheffield United.
The Whites will be desperate to return to winning ways against Middlesbrough on Saturday at the Riverside Stadium, but it won’t be an easy task as Tony Pulis’ side managed to get the better of West Brom last time out.
Interestingly, Daniel James was a player that Leeds came close to signing last month, while Aarron Lennon is a player who Marcelo Bielsa reportedly has his eye on now, so we took a look at who’s worth the purchase.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two potential transfers…
Daniel James was Leeds United’s priority transfer target during the January transfer window, but they weren’t able to complete secure his services as the deal collapsed on deadline day.
The Wales international has been simply sensational in the current campaign, with two goals and five assists to his name. Indeed, he has all the potential to become a future star of the game and he’s already shown that he has what it takes to play a big part at the Liberty Stadium.
So, it looks as if Victor Orta knew exactly what he was doing during the January transfer window, as Daniel James was reportedly a target of Orta’s, with Bielsa just accepting his proposal.
TT GRADE: A-
Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly (as per The Sun) eyeing a summer swoop for Burnley’s Aaron Lennon.
The 31-year-old has been rather disappointing at Turf Moor in the current campaign, with only one goal and one assist to his name in 22 appearances in all competitions. Indeed, the winger looks past his best and he had knee surgery back in December, so he’s not exactly in the best of states at this moment in time.
Therefore, it comes as some surprise that Bielsa is even looking to lure the winger back to Elland Road as he’s not been able to impress in recent years, with a swoop for the Englishman being very underwhelming.
TT GRADE: B-
When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Daniel James is the more exciting player as he continues to impress in the Championship, with the whole of his football career ahead of him.
Of course, Lennon would provide experience if they gain promotion to the Premier League, but he just hasn’t been able to ensure consistency in recent years and he looks past his best.
So, it appears as if Orta is teaching Bielsa a lesson on how to identify transfer targets as Bielsa would be wasting his time by moving in for Lennon, with James offering so much more in the present.
