Leeds United fans here in the Tavern have been less than impressed with their start under new management, as Paul Heckingbottom continues to deliver mixed results at Elland Road.
Paul Heckingbottom managed to secure his first win as Leeds United boss on Saturday, as the Whites produced a convincing 1-0 win over an in form Brentford side. Although, after witnessing his predecessor Thomas Christiansen bring in a heap of youth prospects in the January transfer window, it appears that he’s looking to do the same. But, they have suffered a blow in their pursuit of another academy addition, as according to reports in the Scottish Sun, Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion have joined the race to sign Hearts starlet Harry Cochrane.
Leeds United were believed to have asked about the 16-year-old prior to making his breakthrough but now the big guns are joining the race for the midfielder. And, this could be a huge blow for the Whites’ chances of bringing the youngster to Elland Road, with the bright lights of Premier League football potentially being a too big an opportunity to turn down.
Although, after already bringing Aapo Halme, Yosuke Ideguchi and Tyler Roberts to the club in January, who’s to say that the Leeds United hierarchy can’t pull off another piece of magic? But, judging by the attention that’s surrounding Harry Cochrane’s performances in the Scottish Premiership, it’s vital that the Whites give themselves every chance of bringing the Scotsman to Yorkshire.
The 16-year-old has the potential to become a future star of the game but that’s only if the correct guidance and opportunity is offered to the youngster. Indeed, many of our local residents are hoping that the 16-year-old doesn’t replicate the failures of Stefan Scougall, something that would be seen as a disaster after witnessing all the attraction surrounding the midfielder. Although, with Premier League outfit Brighton now joining the race for Cochrane, this is a big blow to Leeds’ chances of securing his services.
