Leeds United’s transfer business has intensified with deadline day just around the corner.
After examining his squad during an inconsistent pre-season, Marcelo Bielsa has had a busy few days in the transfer market. Earlier in the window, the Argentine added both Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker to his squad; arriving on loan from Chelsea. Jack Harrison also makes the switch from Manchester City as well as Patrick Bamford and Barry Douglas.
Leeds look capable of mounting a serious challenge for promotion if the squad can acclimatise quickly to Bielsa’s system. With the window closing in less than a week, it remains to be seen whether the former Chile boss is happy with his squad. One man he should consider bringing to Elland Road is Everton outcast – Nikola Vlasic.
Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the Croatian joined the Toffees last summer for £10m after a string of impressive performances for Hajduk Split. He started just seven games in the Premier League after falling out of favour following Ronald Koeman’s dismissal. According to Paul Joyce, the youngster has been ordered to train away from the first-team by new boss Marco Silva making a summer exit highly likely.
It’s unclear whether Everton will offload the 20-year-old permanently or authorise a loan spell. Nevertheless, Leeds should be first in line for his services.
Vlasic is naturally a winger but isn’t the quickest of forwards. At times he has been used in a number ten role and has flourished. Playing centrally allows him to showcase his excellent technical ability and fantastic dribbling skills without relying on pace to beat his man. The Croatia international also has a tremendous work-rate which would make him a fan favourite in no time.
Should Leeds land Vlasic, they would definitely challenge for promotion.
