Our Leeds fans here in the Transfer Tavern were certainly happy with their club’s win over Bolton at the weekend but it did come at a cost.
The men from Elland Road recorded a strong 3-2 victory over the Trotters to get their Championship campaign off to a flyer but both Gaetano Berardi and Matthew Pennington had to leave the field with injuries.
For sure, then, that was not ideal and now it seems as though the club is going to have to just wait and see what happens in terms of their recovery.
Indeed, after the game Thomas Christiansen said it was too early to assess what exactly would be the length of time out for both players.
As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post he said:
“Berardi’s injury was his shoulder and Matthew Pennington’s was his ankle. We will know more in the next couple of days.”
The wait, then, begins for the club and the fans with them now looking a bit short at the back.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has arrived, of course, but a new centre-half may also be needed before the window shuts.
Leeds really could have done without this early injury blow to their season, despite their victory.
The losses of Pennington and Berardi, though we don’t know the duration of both yet, will be felt and now Thomas Christiansen will be looking to surely add to his squad before the window shuts.
