All good things come to an end eventually, and for Luton Town, it came on Saturday.
A 3-1 loss to London rivals Charlton Athletic ended Luton’s record-breaking 29-game unbeaten run in League One as well as an even more impressive 76-match unbeaten run after the Hatters have taken the lead.
With five points now separating Mick Harford’s side with second place Barnsley, who came away 4-2 winners at home to Fleetwood, Luton now have to focus on their main goal that was laid out before them at the start of the season, win promotion to the Championship.
The unbeaten run might have come to an end, but that doesn’t mean Luton have the time to sit back and reflect on what an incredible achievement it was. The Hatters have to finish the job they created for themselves, and with four games of the season left to go, the sooner it is done the better.
Immediately getting back on their feet and charging towards the title will be what the fans want and expect from Luton now heading into the remaining matches of the season, and with spirits at the club being so high for most of the campaign, this can be expected from the club.
Luton’s unbeaten run will go down in club and League One history and will be seen as the turning point that got the London-based side promoted to the Championship, but now Hartford and company must get the job down and reminisce about the past when all is said and done.
Luton fans, how soon can the club wrap up promotion? Let us know!
