Our Middlesbrough fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their opening day slip-up to Wolves won’t mean much come the end of the campaign.
Boro came into that game as one of the favourites for the title but the result was just another reminder of how nothing is a given in the second tier and that every single point needs to be fought for.
Certainly, Garry Monk will be drumming that into his players ahead of this weekend whilst he’ll also be eager to see that another week of work on the training field will have helped the new signings settle in.
Indeed, the likes of Britt Assombalonga will be expected to help lead the charge this season but the club is also still on the look out for new players with Lewis Baker potentially on the way in on loan.
The talented midfielder has got an offer from Boro – according to The Daily Mail – to move there from Chelsea and with it unlikely that he’s going to play for the Blues, the midfielder might just jump at the chance to go.
Baker has been in top shape for some time and looks a real gem but he just cannot get any game time at Chelsea.
For sure, then, he needs to move to get more minutes and signing for Boro would be a very good idea given that they are set for a strong campaign this season.
