Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern are praying to the heavens that this late deal goes through, with their side re-igniting their approach for a star forward.
The Telegraph live blog reported at 6:38am this morning that Aston Villa are set to make a fresh approach to Middlesbrough for the services of Jordan Rhodes, preparing to offer their Premier League counterparts £8m to get a deal over the line.
Rhodes has struggled for opportunities this season following Alvaro Negredo’s arrival last summer and has been tipped with a return to the Championship.
An improved offer will be made in the next 24 hours, with Villa fighting Sheffield Wednesday for his services.
The 26-year-old Scotland international was left out of the Middlesbrough team that beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 at the weekend, increasing speculation that an exit could be on the cards, and our landlord believes Aitor Karanka will sanction a move if the money is right- although it could leave Boro short of options.
A host of Boro fans by the pool table here in the Transfer Tavern admit it makes sense for Rhodes to depart the Riverside Stadium this window, especially with the side already signing two strikers in the form of Rudy Gestede, and Patrick Bamford.
