Middlesbrough fans will be disappointed following an uneventful end to the transfer window.
After losing Patrick Bamford, Ben Gibson and Adama Traore, Middlesbrough fans were hoping to see Tony Pulis strengthen significantly on deadline day. However, there was no late business before the window slammed shut with a move for Everton’s Mohamed Besic collapsing at the last minute. Deals for Aden Flint, Paddy McNair and Andy Lonergan stands at their only business so far but ‘Boro can still complete loan moves.
‘Boro kicked off their Championship campaign in excellent fashion with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United. Goals from Martin Braithwaite, Flint and Stewart Downing handed Pulis all three points. However, more additions are needed if they are to maintain their challenge for promotion.
Therefore, they must revive their interest in Everton winger – Yannick Bolasie. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, Pulis was interested in the Congolese forward after the Toffees spend £50m on Watford’s Richarlison. However, the Welshman was unable to get the deal over the line before business concluded. Reports suggest ‘Boro will now attempt to sign him on loan instead.
Bolasie would be a great addition to replace Traore. Known for his pace, power and excellent dribbling ability, the 29-year-old would be a nightmare for EFL defences. Injuries have plagued him during his spell on Merseyside meaning a loan move with the option to buy is the perfect deal.
If he can stay fit and prove his worth then ‘Boro can make the transfer permanent. However, if Bolasie is injured again, then Pulis can seek an alternative and not waste valuable transfer funds. This one is a no-brainer for the promotion hopefuls.
Middlesbrough fans, thoughts?
