The Championship’s top scorers Leeds United were unable to add to their goal tally having been held to a 0-0 draw by Middlesbrough last night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men went into the game having scored two or more goals in previous clashes against Stoke City, Derby County, Rotherham, Swansea City and Norwich City, but could not find a way past Tony Pulis’ men.
And Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton has been quick to praise the tactics of his manager.
“We start with zero, the gaffer says, and if we finish it with zero we’ve got a good chance of winning the game. Our first priority is to not let the other team score and then do what we do.”
Clayton’s comments on his team’s performance is quite telling and is what everyone has come to expect from a Tony Pulis side.
And, while the Middlesbrough boss tends to come under criticism for how he sets up his team and his philosophy in general, more often than not, it gets results and helps the club to achieve its respective goal for the campaign.
Bar his final season at West Brom, Pulis has usually been able to complete the task at hand, even if it was not done in the most prettiest of fashions.
Regardless of how ugly it can be, Pulis gets results and, with that in mind, you can expect Middlesbrough to be one of the frontrunners for promotion.
