The Championship was at risk of becoming a bore for the final day up until last night. Had Derby been able to overcome Swansea at the Liberty Stadium they’d have confirmed their place in the top six, yet they fell to a 1-1 draw. In turn, it’s given both Middlesbrough and Bristol City hope and set up what promises to be a huge final day on Sunday.

At home, Swansea have been a very good side this season and they’re mightily tough to beat, just ask Manchester City, but Derby went there with everything on the line yesterday. Finishing 6th is still well and truly in their hands, but as they edge it at the moment by the narrow margin of just a single point, come Sunday they have the toughest game of the three sides chasing the elusive final playoff place.
Bristol City, two points off of Derby, face an away day at the KCOM where Hull City will be aiming to end their playoff hopes. Meanwhile, Boro will travel to already relegated Rotherham with hopes still alive. That leaves just the Rams, who have to host West Bromwich Albion in what could be a make or break game for Frank Lampard in his managerial career. The playoffs have to be achieved for his debut season in management to be a success, but it’s a lot easier said than done.

The Rams are seriously getting worried that they’re going to bottle it this season, and as far as the Pride Park faithful are concerned, missing out on the playoffs simply isn’t an option.
