The Middlesbrough fans present here in the Transfer Tavern are dreaming of a return the promised land of the Premier League for next season and their credentials have just been boosted.
A Boro fan who has been supping the landlord’s best bitter all day in the Tavern has just caught an update from the club’s official twitter account that has confirmed the signing of Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes for a fee in the region of £13 million.
The 25-year-old has scored 80 Championship goals since August 2012 and now gives the club a huge chance of a return to play top-flight football for the 2016/17 campaign.
One Boro fan thinks this move all but secures promotion and thinks Rhodes will thrive on service from the likes of Grant Leadbitter and Stewart Downing.
Another is playing on the Tavern’s games machine and believes that although Rhodes is a great scorer of goals, the £13 million fee represents a lot of money for someone not proven any higher than the Championship.
Boro fans… We want your views on this HUGE signing! Will he get you to the Premier League? Let us know in the comments below!
