The Middlesbrough fans who are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club are closing in on a new goalkeeper.
According to a report on Gazette Live the newly promoted Premier League side are closing in on a deal to bring Brad Guzan to the club from Aston Villa.
Guzan has been told by Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo that he is surplus to requirements at Villa Park and is free to leave the club this summer despite having a year left on his current deal with the Championship side.
With the American expected to sign terms at the Riverside that will make the custodian the fourth goalkeeper on the books of the club, following the signing of Victor Valdes earlier this summer.
This plunges the futures of both Dimi Konstantopoulos, who kept 22 clean sheets in last season’s promotion campaign and Tomas Mejias’s futures at the club into doubt.
Boro fans, how impressed are you by your club’s recruitment drive this summer?
