The Middlesbrough fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club are edging closer to signing a new striker.
According to reports on Gazette Live, former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo is due on Teeside to have a medical with the newly promoted Premier League side.
The Spaniard, who trained with his current club Valencia yesterday, has been left out of the club’s tour to Holland and is expected to be announced as a Boro player later this week.
It is understood that he will cost the North East club a fee of €10 million and the deal is all but agreed with all parties involved apart from a couple of slight niggles.
Los Che are open to sell the player as they are looking to cut down on spending and with Negredo on around €7 million a year they are looking for a deal to be completed this summer.
During his previous spell in England with Manchester City, the 30-year old netted an impressive 23 goals in 48 appearances for the club and Boro will be hoping for the same sort of return on their investment in the player.
