As you can imagine, it didn’t take long for Tony Pulis to come under fire from the Middlesbrough fans after full-time yesterday. For what it’s worth, the Riversiders put in a decent away display to beat Rotherham at the New York Stadium, but Derby’s home win over West Brom saw them claim 6th, and now Pulis out is going strong.

It wouldn’t have been half as bad to have missed out on a spot in the top six had they not spent the vast majority of the season looking over their shoulders from the safety of the playoff places. However, it was all down to some self-destruction by Pulis and six straight defeats in the Championship that saw this happen, and it’s hard to imagine a way that the ex-Stoke, Palace and WBA man keeps his job.
Had the Northeast club made it into the playoffs then there would be some much-needed justification for Pulis keeping his job despite his turgid football. Unfortunately, now they have nothing to show for their slow, set-piece oriented football there is no reason why Pulis should be kept at the club and the planning for next season should start now, starting with a new fresh-faced manager.

Just not good enough. Need Tony clueless out. How did we not finish in the playoffs?
— Stuart Knox (@StuartKnox14) May 5, 2019
It wasn't results elsewhere that ended it. It was negative tactics throughout the season and 6-losses-in-a-row during the crucial run in.
Changes needed. Let's start with the manager, tonight.
Now get pulis out please
— Luke McCarthy (@ImLukeMcCarthy) May 5, 2019
Complete change needed in the summer, half the players awful, manager is awful, recruitment is awful, chairman's an old donkey. We can be so much better!
— Joshua (@Econgiff) May 5, 2019
Get him out and go again next season #UTB
— Ben (@BenWalker675) May 5, 2019
Do the right thing now Gibbo and get rid of Pulis and half the dead wood team
— John Duffy (@baggyduf) May 5, 2019
The Boro fans are right to be frustrated by Pulis and his anti-football and will be partying on Teesside when his departure is confirmed.
