Middlesbrough fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left rubbing their eyes in disbelief this morning, after reports indicated they’d won the race for a huge star.
French outlet L’Equipe says Aitor Karanka is on the verge of securing a major coup for the struggling Premier League outfit by bringing compatriot Jese Rodriguez to the Riverside Stadium until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old has struggled to cement first-team football at Paris Saint-Germain this season, following a €25m move from Real Madrid, and was widely expected to leave the club this month.
However, even the most optimistic of Middlesbrough fans in the bar did not predict this outcome as it appears the Teessiders have won the race for Jese’s services – having reportedly battled the likes of Liverpool, AC Milan and Roma.
Jese did not train with PSG yesterday as his agent met with Middlesbrough to discuss a potential move and our landlord is tipping this deal to be completed before the deadline on Tuesday.
A number of Boro fans by the bar here in the Tavern cannot believe the club are close to landing a player of this ilk, with them all laughing at the fact the club have gone from Ishmael Miller a couple of years ago, to Jese Rodriguez!
