According to The Birmingham Mail, Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Rajiv van La Parra from Huddersfield.
The Dutchman has been struggling for game time for The Terriers so far this season, and Tony Pulis has taken advantage of that by recruiting him for Boro’s promotion bid. He has made just five Premier League appearances under David Wagner this season and would have been growing restless.
This is an indication that Middlesbrough are aware of their flaws during the first half of the season, and are addressing them as quickly as possible. The club have had very little potency out wide so far this season, with a huge dearth of players in that position. Pulis, therefore, has tried to fashion wide men out of the current crop of players that he has, such as Martin Braithwaite, which has not been particularly successful.
However, Middlesbrough fans will surely be demanding more attacking signings, particularly with rumours surrounding the Dane Braithwaite’s future at The Riverside. In order to be truly competitive in the division and mount a promotion bid, Boro will need to score goals and have more firepower. Only four clubs have scored fewer goals than Middlesbrough this season, and it has been their frugality in defence that has saved them. Pulis will hope that van La Parra will be a stepping stone in the right direction for the club.
Boro are currently fifth in the Championship, which is a decent position given their poor run of form, whereby they have only won two of their last nine matches in all competitions.
