After suffering their first loss of the season on Saturday at the hands of Norwich, expect Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough to come out firing tonight.
They host a Bolton side at The Riverside who have also come from a defeat at the weekend against the resurgent QPR at the University of Bolton Stadium. Both teams will be desperate to get make into winning ways, particularly The Boro, who have slipped down the table.
That is why Pulis should think about making a few changes, particularly in the midfield for tonight’s match. Loan signing from Millwall George Saville made his debut from the bench against The Canaries, but he should hope for a starting berth tonight.
Fan favourite Mo Bešić looked off the pace at the weekend, unable to be his usually assertive self. He was rightly replaced by Saville, in Pulis’ attempt to inject some energy into the midfield. This is what the 25-year-old Northern Ireland international will provide The Boro if he starts, an energy to get the team going and rectify their loss.
However, despite putting in a decent performance against Norwich, Adam Clayton came off injured. It is unclear whether he will be able to play tonight, but Saville (valued at £1.35m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) will obviously be able to fit in very adeptly if the former Huddersfield man is out.
The Boro are three points above tonight’s rivals, but Pulis will not be looking at the clubs beneath him, rather keeping an eye on those that have now moved ahead after the weekend’s loss.
