Martin O’Neill has been out of a job since leaving his role as the Republic of Ireland job back in November last year, and with his history as a player starting his career out properly at Nottingham Forest, it seems poetic that he’s been appointed as the club’s new manager.

Forest are a huge club, and whilst they have a number of quality players in their squad, they simply haven’t been able to click so far this season under Aitor Karanka. Now, though, things could be very different as O’Neill will be taking his wealth of experience back to where it all began, and if he’s given the time he deserves then he could turn The City Ground back into a Premier League stadium.
It certainly won’t be easy, but the 66-year-old gaffer, who was confirmed as the new Forest manager on the Nottingham Forest website, will be aiming for a playoff spot this season. Forest are currently 9th in the Championship but find themselves caught in a dogfight for a top six spot. It’s still all to play for, though as they sit just four points off of 6th, and the fans have high hopes of success.

Welcome Martin. THe number of times since 1993 you were set to manage us must be a record but you finally here. Think we must all make the most of it.

Outstanding! However he will need two or three seasons. It's almost impossible to solve all Forest problems in 5 months. Everybody has to be patient. #NFFC

The Forest fans absolutely love their club’s appointment and will hope that the North Irishman can thrive at the club where he started his playing career.
