What a season Joe Worrall has had at Rangers! He’s been one of their shining lights this campaign and that should earn him a chance to prove himself at Nottingham Forest.
The 22-year-old played 22 times in the Scottish Premiership this season, and he’s made the centre-back spot his own immediately. Gerrard must want him to stay at Ibrox for next season, but Martin O’Neill shouldn’t give him the option. He should (and is on course to) return home.
The youngster has one year left on his contract and so Forest either need to sell him this summer or decide to play him and then offer him a new deal. It’d be crazy to sell him now considering the potential he’s got to become one of the country’s best.
He’s done more than enough to warrant an opportunity at the City Ground, and the fans would be given a boost by seeing one of their academy players breaking through into the first team. It’d send the right message out to the youth players too.
Forest will surely look to bolster their squad this summer, but they shouldn’t forget about the man they already have waiting in the wings. He’d cost nothing to give an opportunity to, and if he’s not good enough, he can go back on loan. There’s no risk.
It’s a no-brainer for the Forest boss. He can either go out and spend some money on a centre-back, or he can give the opportunity to a deserving youngster who wants to prove he’s good enough for his club. It’s time Joe Worrall was given his chance.
