Nottingham Forest have gotten off to a shaky start in the Championship despite a summer of heavy investment and plenty of expectation around the club.
The Reds have struggled to mount any form of consistency so far, although a big performance in the League Cup win over Newcastle United showed that the signs are indeed there for manager Aitor Karanka to have some success at the City Ground this season.
Despite the heavy influx of new talent, the club will no doubt remain active in the market when they can, and signing key players in January could well be the difference between the club winning promotion and simply making do with a mid-table finish.
One man we here at the Transfer Tavern think could be a good signing for the club is Cardiff City striker Gary Madine, who is likely to see chances with the Bluebirds limited this season under Neil Warnock.
However, at Championship level, Madine is quite the handful, and after his good form for Bolton, he played a crucial role in seeing Cardiff promoted following a big money January move.
Forest do have the likes of Daryl Murphy and Lewis Grabban to call upon, but you can never have enough experience and quality up front, and Madine brings a different option with his height and presence through the middle.
Madine is the sort of signing what might not appear to be the most glamorous, but in terms of efficiency and simply getting the job done, the former Sheffield Wednesday man could well fit the mould perfectly for what Forest might need come January.
Forest fans, what do you think? Good signing to keep an eye on? Let us know in the comments!
