A huge amount of Nottingham Forest fans believe the club have too big a midfield

It’s been a busy few months at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest try to get their side in order for an ambitious promotion challenge. With Jorge Mendes’ influence now spreading over to the banks of the River Trent, the Reds have splashed the cash under Aitor Karanka.

However, it’s not been an overly impressive start to the campaign. Forest have been solid if unspectacular and currently lie in mid-table with just one win to their name. Perhaps that’s unsurprisingly considering their manager and his style of play, though it could also speak to a wider issue for the Tricky Trees.

After such a big summer, the club are still getting to grips with their new options, though it’s not quite clear what the recruitment policy has been. Indeed, following the arrivals of midfielders Jack Colback, Diogo Gonçalves and Joao Carvalho, the free agent signings of Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Claudio Yacob give the Reds an excess of midfielders.

So much so that we recently asked our Forest supporting readers whether or not they believed that was the case and, interestingly, a whopping 92% of those who voted think it is.

Forest need better balancing, that’s for sure, and the fans have spoken as yet another engine room operator arrives.
