After spending big in the summer window, it is likely Nottingham Forest will carry on from where they left off in January.
Promotion to the Premier League, and the riches that come with promotion, are the clear aim for the East Midlands side this season. Aitor Karanka has assembled a top-quality Championship squad at the City Ground, but continuous improvement is needed for a side to get over the line for promotion to the Premier League.
The pick of Nottingham Forest’s many signings is surely Joao Carvalho, who joined for a club record £13.2m from Benfica. The Portuguese youth international seems an excellent signing for a side in the second tier. In many ways, Nottingham Forest are continuing the trend from Wolverhampton Wanderers in going for broke with big signings.
Despite their high-profile signings, Nottingham Forest enjoyed a mixed start to their Championship campaign. The Tricky Trees started with two 1-1-1 draws, away to Bristol City, and at home to West Bromwich Albion. These games likely made Karanka turn his attentions to the January transfer window.
The signing Aitor Karanka should have his eye on, is Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Bright Enobakhare. Enobakhare is valued at £450,000 by Transfermarkt. He is an imposing striker, who has exemplary hold-up play. If he adds a lethal finish to his game, he will be a real menace to opposition defences.
The Benin-born player would provide great cover for the forward-line at the City ground. He also has vital experience of gaining promotion from the Championship.
At just 20-years-old, he is only going to get better. However, in the Premier League at Molineux, he is unlikely to get too many chances in the first time, so it is likely he could be tempted by a move to the City Ground.
